The President's Pin - 'Fodere Altius'


2013 saw the foundation of The President's Pin; an award given to for services to The Friends of Tilling, generously funded by our President. Recipients are announced each March and insignia presented at the Gathering each September.

The first recipients were:

Mrs Elizabeth French - for regular attendance at Gatherings, loyal support, entering into the spirit of the occasion always so elegantly dressed in period gowns and of course for writing the wonderful Lucia in New York. (2013)



Mr Guy Fraser-Sampson - for keeping the world of Tilling alive and well in his new Lucia novels, Major Benjy, Lucia on Holiday and  Au Reservoir. (2013)


Mr Nickolas Grace - for several wonderful readings at Gatherings, and his portrayal of Benson in the BBC radio adaptations of the Lucia novels. (2013)


he Rev. Keith Brigham (The Padre) - for loyal support and many humorous graveside addresses. (Posthumously 2014)


Mr Allan Downend, who as secretary of the E F Benson Society has been a constant source of help and support to The Friends and for keeping the memory of Fred and his remarkable family alive. (Picture to follow)
